What is Sharp-Pencil.com, and what do you do?
We are a group of insured, licensed professional engineers, estimators and
contractors that have been putting together estimates, capital budgets, work
packages, and construction drawings for the last several decades. We come
from private practice, working in commercial, residential, and industrial
construction. Sharp-Pencil.com was formed in 2007 as a response to an overwhelming
need for professional estimating and construction consulting - for both contractors
and property owners.
And why should I pay for this?
Sharp-Pencil.com is not for everybody - but you would be surprised how many
people use it: residential contractors, commercial contractors, government
contractors, home owners looking to budget their improvements, property owners
putting together capital plans, and people who just want a set of legitemate
construction drawings to build off of.
And how does it work?
It all starts with an e-mail or a phone call. Give us as much information
as you can. Photos, linear footages, sketches - we can work from STACKS of
architects drawings and specifications (most accurate) to just some photos
and a phone interview. We will let you know how accurate we think we can be
with what you provide.
OK, so how much?
A vast majority of the time, we will let you know up front how much an estimate
or drawing will cost to produce. And it always surprises folks how little
it can really be. Some examples:
A small residential deck estimate and material list: our estimate fee
was $20. Labor hours, materials, sequencing.
A federal 3 story building mechanical upgrade, total construction value
of $540,000: our estimate fee was $400.
A movie theater renovation/expansion: $900.
A price check for five bids on a home addition (we also write scopes
to help you get that apples-to-apples comparison): $60.
And the catch?
No catches, really. If you give us enough info, we can price it out. Our engineers
and CAD operators are ready for your drawing work as well. Decks, structural
details, retaining walls, concrete and civil work. We even do site plans,
as long as one of our engineers can cover your state.
